There is productive 鬥爭 and counterproductive 鬥爭.

“從我做起，從現在做起” does not mean the action will not affect others. It is actually a more product action then directly pushing others around for change.

There is a famous quote from Mahatma Gandhi that says exactly the same thing: to be the change you want to see in the world.
