Some parts of my country have western democracy. Viewing from US, I found that it is doing more destruction than construction in Taiwan.

I have no intention to put Taiwan down. If Taiwan has progress in economy, anti-corruption, social fairness, and every other aspects, I will be happy. However, the fact is that Taiwan fell behind Hong Kong and S. Korea in economical development since 1998, the year I chose the remember as a reference. Hong Kong has very limited corruption problem. S. Korea does have every former president found corrupted, but unlike in Taiwan, nobody and no party have ever specifically supportted a single corrupted former president. The function of democracy is being weakened by the independence issue in Taiwan, which is going to be an unsolvable issue within Taiwan.

40 years ago in Beijing, nobody dared to said anything negative about revolution. Same thing is happenning in Taiwan, just revolution is replaced by democracy. The human being has 5000 years of civilized history, democracy only appeared briefly in Roma around 2000 years ago, then reappeared in the last a few hundred years. Even in the US, where democracy was established since the country was established, the african americans were slaved for nearly a century under democracy. Women did not have the right of voting for well more than 100 years.

Democracy has to fit a society. When a society does not have sufficient material supply, or there are other fierce struggle ongoing, the parties in the society cannot afford to lose any election. They either make trouble to the ruling party all the time, or try to overturn the election results long before the next election. In better cases, the losing party starts the campgain for the next election right after losing one, the ruling party does everything for the benefit of re-election. This way, the society remains in chaos all the time.

After all, the fundamental difference is if someone cares about the well-being of the people or not. If someone put his ideology above people's well-being, I have to say this is a bad person. My position is: if democracy works for a society, great; if democracy create more harm than interest, face it.
