還不太習慣文學城論壇的設置，看起來很吃力。

鮑爾斯也是一位頗有成就的作曲家，音樂家，但是他作為音樂家和作家竟然展現出完全不同的氣質，他的小說是黑暗的，而他的小說有多黑暗，他的音樂就有多光明。
音樂我不懂，無法置喙，隻能說說他的小說了。鮑爾斯的行文幹淨簡潔，晶瑩剔透。比如下麵這一段，在命運急轉直下之前，咖啡館小老板離開了，教授隻身走下陡坡，來到底部，鮑爾斯用兩三行文字描寫了一下當時的環境：
“He was now well down the gigantic cliff, but the moon, being directly overhead, gave as much light as ever. Only the wind was left behind, above, to wander among the trees, to blow through the dusty streets of Aïn Tadouirt, into the hall of the Grand Hotel Saharien, and under the door of his little room.”
不知怎麽，這一段關於月光、關於風的描述，讓我想到了喬伊斯那段著名的雪景，雖然這個小故事沒有喬伊斯那麽多的個人情愁、家國大義。“……snow was general all over Ireland. It was falling on every part of the dark central plain, on the treeless hills, falling softly upon the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. ……”
像不像？
