   The  brawling of a sparrow in the eaves,                          麻雀喧囂聲在房簷下回響，
    The brilliant moon and all the milky sky,                     皎潔的月亮滿天群星，
    And the loud song of the ever-singing leaves,             歌唱不息的樹葉歌聲嘹亮，
    Had hid away earth’s old and weary  cry.                      隱匿了塵世間疲憊的鳥鳴
 

      And then you came with those red mournful lip         你一來紅唇上帶著悲愴，
      And with you came the whole of the world’s tear,     你一來全世界淚水漣漣，
      And all the trouble of her  labouring ships                  一艘艘大船滿載著沉重負擔
      And  all the trouble  of her myriad years.                   滿載著千年萬年的勞神費心
 

    And now the sparrows warring in the eaves,                麻雀在屋簷下打鬥不停，
    The curd-pale moon, the white stars in the sky,          蒼白的月亮潔白的星星，
    And the loud chaunting  of the unquiet  leaves,          不安靜的樹葉高歌不停
    Are shaken with earth’s old and weary cry.                   震抖出世間疲憊的悲傷。

 

詩人簡介：------威廉·巴特勒·葉芝William Butler Yeats（1865—1939），愛爾蘭詩人，劇作家，散文家，出生於都柏林，被讚譽為上世紀初愛爾蘭文學複興運動的領軍人物和西方近代的偉大詩人之一，1923年曾獲諾貝爾文學獎。葉芝注重詩歌的形式和風格，主張寫詩要有朦朧，含蓄和超俗。其詩歌富有浪漫主義色彩，其代表作有«茵尼斯弗利島»（請參見拙譯），«心願之鄉»，«十字路口»等。

這一詩共三節，每節詩由四句詩組成。此詩按abab/cdcd/abab押韻，格律嚴謹。
