一個關於fact 的真實故事

以前我做postdoc的時候，碰到了一個“特殊”的老板（我說"特殊"是因為這裏不想評價他）。有一天，在他的巨型辦公室，我倆分坐在對角線的位置，相隔10米不止。那是一個冬天的黃昏，他不開燈，黑得臉都看不清。我告訴他，他想要的data不可能得到，我詳細地論證、說明。然而他卻說，你那麽聰明的人是應該能得到的。

我告訴 That’s the fact.

他笑笑說，no no no，假如馬路上出了一個交通事故，你站在馬路的一邊，我站在馬路的另一邊 –

Then we are seeing two different facts.

幾個月後，我離開了他的實驗室去了industry。坦率地說，那句話在後來的日子裏對我非常有幫助。那是我成年以後聽到的最振聾發聵的話之一。
