成詩的脈絡 - 裏爾克 “橄欖園”（完結篇）

之六：詩人裏爾克旅行的時候，聖經是他隨身帶的兩本書之一（記於《給年輕詩人的信》）。他的一些詩直接取材於聖經，這提供了一個了解他如何寫詩的入口，對照聖經翻譯這部分詩，希望尋求詩人成詩的脈絡。這首“橄欖園”寫的是耶穌被出賣前夜在客西馬尼園的祈禱，出自聖經新約Matthew 26:36-46, Mark 14:32-42以及Luke 22:39-46。其中最著名的經文是耶穌重複的禱文：“我 父 阿 ， 倘 若 可 行 ， 求 你 叫 這 杯 離 開 我 。 然 而 ， 不 要 照 我 的 意 思 ， 隻 要 照 你 的 意 思 ”，反應他與天父合一，隻求成就神的心意。從第一段用第三人稱，接下三段轉入耶穌的第一人稱，又回到第三人稱看，詩主體是裏爾克默想整段經文的過程，最後一句詩眼（裏爾克詩高所在），道出耶穌受難出乎意外的結果：看似他和眾使徒的失敗，按說會被遺忘，卻（可能）因出自神，注定了使命成就，翻轉曆史。

 

**至此，所讀的裏爾克取材聖經的6首詩翻完（皆出自企鵝經典版<Rainer Maria Rilke Selected Poems>”。現代詩裏爾克是一直被模仿，從未被超越，喜歡讀他的請繼續參考文學城網友cxyz的blog, 其以專業水平翻譯了大量裏爾克的詩：

The Olive Garden/橄欖園

 

And still he climbed, and through the grey leaves thrust,

他還是爬上去了，灰白的葉子撲麵而過

quite grey and lost in the grey olive lands,

又無聲消失在橄欖地的蒼茫之中，

and laid his burning forehead full of dust

他俯伏在地，滾燙的額前揚起塵土

deep in the dustiness of burning hands.

雙手如焚。 

 

After all, this. And this, then, was the end.

終究，這，就是終點了。

Now I’m to go, while I am going blind,

現在我要走了, 卻毫無頭緒

and, oh, why wilt Thou have me still contend

而且，哦，你為何還讓我試圖叫這杯離開

Thou art, whom I myself no longer find.

No more I find Thee. In myself no tone

Wherefore an angel? Oh, there came the night,

天使為何而來？哦，黑夜翩然而至，

and turned the leaves of trees indifferently,

將樹葉變為一色，

and the disciples stirred uneasily.

使徒們心有不安。

Wherefore an angel? Oh, there came the night.

天使為什麽來？哦，黑夜降臨。

 

The night that came requires no specifying;

那一夜無甚不同；

Just to a hundred nights go by

如同逝去的百個夜晚

while dogs are sleeping and while stones are lying-

狗在沉睡，石塊默然-

just any melancholy night that, signing,

像任何一個憂傷之夜，歎息

lingers till morning mount the sky.

縈繞至晨光爬上天空。

 

For angels never come to such men’s prayers,

天使從未應這些人的祈禱而來，

nor nights for them mix glory with their gloom.

夜晚亦不會於他們的愁容中顯出榮耀。

Forsakenness is the self-loser’s doom,

被遺忘本是失敗者的注定，

and such are absent from their father’s cares

卻因他們天父的看顧而缺席

and disinclined from their mother’s womb.

自他們母腹起就被不喜。
