5 Reasons NOT to live in Singapore (轉帖)

1. One overwhelming ruling Party since we got our independance. No fresh ideas due to in-breeding and party line thinking. Opposition are fiercely discouraged. As a result, there are no healthy debates in the parliaments on any issues. Ruling party wishes rules the day. Mistakes made in public policies are often reversed without any ceremony or apologies.

2. The bottom 20% of the population are very poor...the Zaemites...they get poorer while the Ministers and the MPs and the CEOs of Stat Boards and senior govt officers are well looked after (by the very complex 31st percentile of the to 10 pecent subject to the finer adjustments ....etc etc market formula)
3. The ever increasing cost of living....increase in oil, rice, flour, ERPs, GST etc etc etc
4. Lack of meaningful activities and living space. What do we do over the weekend? Bt Timah Hills to climb? Botanic Gardens lawns to have picnics? Trails to walk? Beaches to swim? jettys to fish? ....I am sure you need no reminder on the >80% humidity and the ever annoying mozzies both in day and nite time
5. With the alarmingly high rate of increase in migrants, 30-40% of our population in the last 10-15 years ?? I get the funny feeling Singapore is not the Singapore I know or grew up in.

minus the PRC and the Indian migrants.... Singapore is a good place to live, although it is getting crowded.... I just hate the crowd.. and also, the fact that it is an island nation, we may be completely submerged in sea water due to the melting ice caps... it is predicted that in a 100 years, island nations will be wiped out. but thankfully, i won't be ard in a 100 yrs...

S'pore cannot be a good place to live as long as the current leaders don't change their mindset.
S'pore is good only for those who can find a good job here, not interested in local politics/well-being of the country and intending to leave later. This country is good only as a temporary abode - a halfway house for those who can afford.

1.... at least the bills are passed fast... cannot imagine if they debate forever to pass a bill.

2.... bottom 20% of most places are poor... if not, they will not be called as bottom 20%

3.... cost of living... at least there is a living

4.... you must be kidding when you say there is lack of activities... this is a place that I can go out at 3am, & still find food to eat, places to shop...

5.... basically, we are a migrant country... most of us are migrant in 1way or another...

1 - Too many hookers these days. You see them in shopping centres, hawker centres, fast-food restaurants, buses, outside temples and besides supreme courts etc. They will pester you on every moment.

#2 - Because of #1, there are too many pimps around and these are the lazy bones who are not contributing to the society. As a result, even taxi-drivers want to work as pimp these days (esp in Geylang & Orchard Towers) and hence even with 35% sub-charges, sometimes, you cannot get a taxi.

#3 - Because of #1, decent business such as beauty salons image is tarnished. These days, the moment you step into a beauty salon, there are higher chances the staff want to strip your pants than to do facial treatment. Decent salon business are affected and many need to close down, causing more to be jobless.

#4 - Because of #1, many come to Singapore under the pretext of Private Students learning English or Marketing. These ladies spend more time soliciting in Geylang than attending lessons. Years of efforts to make Singapore as the Education Hub went to drain because of these private students.

#5 - Because of #1, more families are split and more old men being conned of their CPF monies. When these old men go homeless, more taxpayers monies need to be wasted to support them.

Try to imagine yourself as a professional footballer (Ronaldo, Kaka, etc...). Their professional career lifespan is short, lets say 10yrs. So, they must reap in as much as possible within 10yrs so that they could retired comfortably. The same goes for FTs, I strongly believe. The prime of one's career is, lets say, 30-50yrs old (so, it's 20yrs career lifespan). So, only fools not taking full advantage of the 20yrs lifespan and seek comfort retirement elsewhere.

Make full use of the advantages here, eg: good rental if own property, strong currency, CPF (high interest rate, but not sure for the full withdraw), etc... Be creative to find loopholes (legally) and invest wisely (both local and overseas), the dream of retired young and comfortably is no longer a far fetch dream...

Reasons not to live here ….

1. Authoritarian gahmen with an elitist mindset …. therefore, come out schemes such as GRC, NMP, NCMP …. while indulging in porkbarrel politics and gerrymandering ….

2. A superinflated-salaried gahmen which only protects and provides for its own members with super attractive bonuses, pension schemes, directorships in GLC’s, etc

3. All possible sorts of taxes and high cost of living & rentals, but no subsidies in public services and poor welfare for the poor ….

4. Controlled environment …. where gahmen owns or is involved in nearly business directly of indirectly …. wanting the ppl to “slog for them" ….

5. Too many foreigners …. resulting in overcrowding, competition, some unfamiliar social habits … where foreigners are favored such that the livelihood of locals are neglected ….

6. Most ppl have to slog like mules for a living …. most households are no more sustainable by sole-breadwinner …. child-upbringing have to depend on maids …. poor quality of living …. work & work & work ….. with your CPF committed to your compartmentalized, so-called home for 99 yrs …. little chance of savouring your fruits of labour ….

7. High emphasis on academic performances where children miss their enjoyment during the childhood years .... education system is too stressful for our children ....
