Caught on camera: Maid abuses 2-month-old baby She slapped the two-month-old Chinese boy's inner thigh, twisted his arm, pushed his head, shook his cradle violently - and even flying kicked his buttocks, reported Lianhe Wanbao. The abuse by the maid, Etik, a 25-year-old Indonesian, was discovered by the baby's father when the latter checked the footage from the closed circuit TV in their home living room at 11pm on Jan 25. After confronting the maid, the parents called the police at 1am the following day. Investigations showed that the maid has been working for the family since Nov 1, 2007. The maid had appeared to be a gentle person. To understand how things were like when she was working, the baby's parents secretly installed the CCTV in the home. As a result, they discovered the maid's shocking behaviour. After reporting her to the police, the parents put the abuse footage on the Net to warn other parents to watch over their maids, Wanbao reported. WHAT THE MAID DID Investigations showed that at 9.30am on Jan 25, the baby's parents and other family members left their home, leaving the maid alone with the baby. After her employers left, the maid's behaviour towards the baby changed for the worse. CCTV footage revealed that the maid abused the baby in the following ways: 1. When the baby boy was lying on the sofa, she pushed his inner thigh and hit his foot and inner thigh; the boy cried loudly. 2. The maid suddenly grabbed both the boy's hands and lifted him off the sofa, then placed him in the sarong cradle. 3. Used her foot to kick the cradle, and used her foot to swing the cradle. 4. Used her hand to slap and apply pressure on his head. 5. Kicked the baby's buttocks and shook the cradle violently. The baby was sent to the hospital by his father the next morning. Fortunately, the medical report showed that the baby was unharmed. Maid: Abused baby because she missed her daughter The maid said she committed her foolish crime because she missed her 3-year-old daughter greatly and was feeling depressed, confused and scared. Her lawyer said Etik came from a poor family and lost her mother at a young age. Etik only has primary school education as her farmer father could not afford to send her for further studies. Etik first came to Singapore in August 2007 to work as a maid. Her first employer wanted her to do the work for two homes - she quit after two months as she could not cope. After that, she was hired by the father of the baby boy, who was born a week after she started work at the new family. As Etik missed her daughter, who was back in their hometown, she requested her employers for a phonecall to speak with her family and daughter but was turned down. In her confused and depressed state, and with the baby's frequent incessant crying, Etik committed her offence in a fit of anger. Her lawyer said that Etik was very remorseful over her actions and had suffered great emotional harm, and so pleaded for a lighter sentence.
