當愛召喚你時

    當愛召喚你時，跟隨他，雖然他的道路艱難而險峻。當他展翅擁抱你時，依順他，雖然他隱藏在羽翼中的利刃會傷害你。當他開口對你說話時，相信他，雖然他的聲音會像北風盡掃花園般地擊碎你的夢。

    愛雖然可以為你加冕，但也能將你釘上十字架；他雖然可以幫助你成長，但也能將你削坎。他會攀至枝頭高處，撫慰著你在陽光下顫動著的最柔嫩的枝條；他也會潛至你的根部，撼動你緊緊依附大地的根須。

    這一切都是愛為你所做的，使你能從中領悟自己內心的秘密，從而成為生命本質的一小部分。

    但是在恐懼中，你若隻是追求愛的和平與歡樂，那倒不如遮蓋住自己的赤裸，躲避愛的篩選，躲進那沒有季節更迭的世界。在那裏，你會開懷，但不是盡情歡笑；你會哭泣，但不是盡拋淚水。愛除了自身，別無所欲，也別無所求；愛，不占有也不被占有，因為對愛來說，有愛就足夠了。

When love beckons you

When love beckons you, follow him, though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you, believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
　　
For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, so shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of life's heart.

But if, in your fear, you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears. Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. love possesses not, nor would it be possessed, for love is sufficient unto love.
