In this case, I think the trigger is somehow this boys thought he was considered unworthy. We certainly can not force LZ to be his girfriend, but she can certainly try to build his confidence. If he goes to professional, they might tell him to get over with the fact that she consider him unworthy, if she can make him feel better about himself, others may have easier job helping him.
