【五律】秋日吻別

秋來君忽去，葉落樹常悲。

寒鳥將飛日，霜天欲語時。

此生情已了，他日念還癡。

吻別灑秋水，風狂亂作詩。

 

Kiss Goodbye on An Autumn Day

 

When the autumn falls upon us, it's time

to summarize the summer's rise and fall,

or just forget it all together.

Its fire can't last forever after all.

 

Is that also why you're leaving me suddenly?

You broke the news to me. The news broke me,

set my heart trembling, like those falling leaves

caught up in a whirlwind. Hard to imagine

how the trees endure this perennial pain.

 

The migrating birds, indifferent,

about to take off as well.

The frosty sky has seen enough parting,

pretty much to the point he won't bang

his own chest and cry a thunder again.

 

In this lifetime there is no hope

I can rekindle this love.

Looking back at it someday,

I'll still be carried away.

 

The crystal lakes of your eyes

are brimming with autumn water.

O baby, baby, don't you cry,

keep your cheeks dry.

The last kiss is a kiss goodbye.

 

The autumn wind is starting to lose its sanity.

First it lined up gold-colored leaves

into the stanzas of a love poem,

then with a single sweeping motion

it broke them up into pieces,

all over the place you left behind.

 

It was mad for not understanding

why love isn't color blind.
