翻譯隨筆

第三行“羌笛何須怨楊柳”不是“羌笛為什麽要抱怨楊柳樹”的意思，而是詩人在這時恰好聽到羌笛吹奏《折楊柳》的樂曲，內心產生了戍卒的離愁感。古人有臨別折柳相贈的風俗，“柳”與“留”諧音，楊柳和離別就有了密切的聯係。現在當戍邊士卒聽到羌笛吹奏著悲涼的《折楊柳》曲調時，就難免會觸動離愁別恨。所以我們不能把本句譯成Why complain about the willows。“春風不度玉門關”，玉門關連春風都沒有，哪裏來的楊柳供你抱怨呢？本譯是The Qiang Flute, why do you bemoan the willow song? 譯文裏的bemoan是個動詞，有“（哼哼唧唧）悲歎於”、“（哼哼唧唧）感傷於”的意思，因此這個譯文就有“為什麽老是哼哼唧唧悲哀地吹奏著《折楊柳》呢”這個意思。
