1. Autumn

The maple tree weaves itself a red gown
The walnut paints its funny face brown
The pomegranate wears a little crown
And the squirrel jumps up and down
O, young man, come hither, come hither
Hurry, we are all waiting--
Just put your best suit and tie on
And you will be the handsomest groom in town

2. Waiting for him

A woman paces back and forth
Her lips in drought and her eyes on fire
Her cheeks turn redder as she looks north:
The timely rain of kisses draws nigher

3. Waiting for her (but she did not show up)

A rainy night in early spring
Lone soul, no more arriving train
In hand a ring, in heart a sting
The rain pats him hard to ease his pain

4. True love

A true love is gold
Throw it not if you could hold
Do watch out for the greedy gaze
For once it's usurped, none repays

Indeed a true love is gold
It grows in value when it gets old
Wind or rain may strew it with dust
But nothing can make it rust

5. Gone (imitating Edgar Allan Poe's Alone)

A man and a woman, a perfect pair
One handsome and the other fair
All night the two would bill and coo
While she's aching for him to woo
Suddenly in an autumn dawn
Of a rainy day, he was gone
Without a sound, without a word
(Which is a mystery). Then is heard
In ev'ry depth of heat and chill
The yearning song which rings grief still
In the river, or the fountain
On the bare slope of the mountain
In the sun that rolls around her
On the winterscape of silver
In the lightning, the thunder, and the storm
And the cloud that takes any form
We feel her passions that she does bring
As we once drank from a common spring

附:

Alone

BY Edgar Allan Poe

From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others were—I have not seen
As others saw—I could not bring
My passions from a common spring—
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow—I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone—
And all I lov’d—I lov’d alone—
Then—in my childhood—in the dawn
Of a most stormy life—was drawn
From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still—
From the torrent, or the fountain—
From the red cliff of the mountain—
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold—
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by—
From the thunder, and the storm—
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view—
