(Newser) – About an hour after her alleged sexual assault at the hands of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the hotel maid involved in the case called her brother sobbing uncontrollably, he says, telling him: “Somebody did something really bad to me." Now, her older brother says, the 32-year-old west African immigrant, reportedly a devout Muslim, “is somewhere very, very safe and will stay that way.” The Daily Mail adds that police found blood on the bed sheets in Strauss-Kahn’s hotel suite. He is accused of forcing the alleged victim to take part in oral and anal sex.

Meanwhile, Strauss-Kahn’s defense team argued in court yesterday that his sexual encounter with the maid may not have been forcible, the New York Post reports. "There may well have been consent,” says a source close to the defense. As for allegations that Strauss-Kahn rushed out of the hotel in a hurry, his lawyer says that was simply because he had a prior lunch date with his daughter; he adds that the flight Strauss-Kahn was pulled from had been booked before the alleged assault. The French media, however, have reported he called his wife on the way to the airport to say he had a “serious problem.”
