face several restrictions that stay in effect until they upgrade to a basic license. Here are the main ones:
- Nighttime curfew: You cannot drive between 11:01 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Exceptions exist for emergencies judged serious enough by local police, and for employment or religious activities, but those require written verification from your employer or religious authority.
- Passenger limit: You may carry only one additional passenger beyond any of your own dependents. This limit does not apply if a parent or guardian rides along, or if you are 21 or older with a probationary license.
- No wireless devices at all: You may not use any interactive wireless communication device while operating a moving vehicle on a public road, whether handheld or hands-free. The only exception is a genuine emergency.
- Seatbelts for everyone: Every person in the vehicle must be properly buckled up or secured in a child restraint system.
