Very similar experience

I'm also from Shanghai and only a few years older than you.  My mother will give my brother everything (her apartment and savings) and give me nothing.  She did not hesitate to give my brother money for his business, but she hesitated to ask me if I needed money for my brain surgery (I did not accept one cent from her)... Yet I still give her money every time I go back to Shanghai and spend all my time with her.  My American friends have stopped talking to their parents for some not so good treatment they got growing up, but those were nothing compared to what we experience.  I feel it's about time for us to stand up for ourselves and be emotionally strong to cut the ties with our abusers.
