I got a chance to participate the national college exam in 1979. So I was able to go a college that year.
In Mao's time, it was impossible since I am from a small village, although people like Xi panzi could go Tsinghua U.
If Xi panzi's father is a farmer, I am not sure if he could go college. Even he could go, could he became the secretary of the Minster of Defense? If he was not cheating to get a Ph.D from Tsinghua, could he get the toppest position?
Hence, I am not optimistic for China now. Even in 1989, I was feeling ok since Deng was alive.
In any sense, I like Deng and his folks. But I have no connection with them.
