what does chink mean

Chink:

Noun:
  1. A narrow opening or crack, typically one that admits light.

Frankly speaking, there seems nothing wrong with the title on ESPN, "chink in the armor". It means a crack on the armor. It is an analog that Lin has some weekness although he is tough in general.

Unfortunately, chink became a racial slur referring to Chinese/North Koreans. Because Lin's race, people consider that chink is used to refer him. Is it an overreaction? After all, the majority of comments on Lin has been nothing but positive. Let's compare it with Prof. Kong's comments on Hong Kong people. Kong is not fired as far as I know.
