Just visit some villages in northern Anhui and ask people older than 75 then you know what happened. I was born in 1961 in a poor village in northern Anhui (huaipei). According to your opinion, my mother was not starving in 1961. The truth is that many people died in my village resulted from the famine. When I was a kid, whenever the women of my mother's age met, the past they often recalled was the 1960 famine, not the evil time before 1949. They often mentioned who's mother was dead, who's farther died, who's grand parents passed away in 1960 because of hunger. A women was so hungry that she ate dead child body. They even recall how delicacy of tree bark and bugs because they were so hungry. Would you eat tree bark and bug now? You grew in the city, you never know how much we suffered in the countryside.
