I do not believe Mao intended to kill, but I do believe that he considers people (even large number of people) to be expendable.
Nor do I think he intended to be God, or that he was truly a God. It was merely a figure of speech. However he had, and knew that he had, tremendous power.
I also don't deny that he might have good intention, that he may have wanted to build a perfect society. We all know that the path to hell is paved by good intention. Hitler also thought that he was doing something good for the world.
As a chinese, I can, and should be critical of our leaders. It's not easy, and it probably won't be fair. But we try.
