1) When the PRC declared that it faced a terrorist threat in 2001, this was disingenuous. Instead, there was a small group of Uyghur militants located in Afghanistan who wanted to establish an insurgency inside China, but the PRC ensured that they were contained by the Taliban

3) During this time, the person who tried to start a Uyghur insurgency from Afghanistan, Hasan Mahsum, was killed when he had fled to Pakistan. Before he was killed by the Pakistani military in 2003, he called RFA and condemned the 9/11 attacks, denying he was a terrorist

5) There is no evidence that they carried out any violence inside China during the Olympics, but the PRC severely clamped down on Uyghurs during the games, arresting many and harassing others. This resulted in two low-level violent incidents inside the Uyghur region during games

7) TIP makes several videos in 2008, but none of them had anything to do with the terrible ethnic violence in Urumqi in the summer of 2009. The Urumqi riots were a boiling over of tensions created by increased development and assimilation in the region and by Han in-migration
— Sean R. Roberts (@robertsreport) November 25, 2019
9) Beginning in 2011, the tensions in the south of the Uyghur region become overwhelming. Thousands of Uyghurs flee the region using human trafficking networks. There is frequent violence between rural residents in south with security organs, but none of it is claimed by TIP
— Sean R. Roberts (@robertsreport) November 25, 2019
11) In 2014, there are two violent incidents (Kunming and Urumqi train stations) that look like terrorist attacks, but there is no evidence that there is an organization behind them - TIP congratulates, but doesn't claim responsibility
— Sean R. Roberts (@robertsreport) November 25, 2019
13) In 2015 violence begins to subside, and PRC feels its suppression of Uyghur dissent is working through the People's War on Terror. Chen Quanguo is appointed to run area for the CCP in 2016, and there is almost no violence throughout the year.
— Sean R. Roberts (@robertsreport) November 25, 2019
15) Yes, TIP did become a militant group of note finally in Syria, but there is no evidence that it has ever carried out any violence inside China. It became a group of note by recruiting those who left country following 2009 riots in Urumqi
— Sean R. Roberts (@robertsreport) November 25, 2019
16) What is happening to the Uyghurs inside China has little to do with terrorism. It has to do with the PRC gradual colonization/development of the Uyghur homeland since 2000. The local resistance to this colonization has been labeled terrorism
