The best CD ripping software available is EAC (Exact Audio Copy). This is also a freeware. EAC has the ability to accurately read and extract audio bits from discs, check CD info (artist/album/tracktitle/genre, etc), and use external routines to convert PCM to other audio formats (for example, ape, flac, mp3, and mpc).
