Kempff's Chopin. I have his Chopin Sonata and a few smaller Chopin works. Sorry to say, they are not first rate. (I am not saying the concerto on your blog, to which I have not listened yet.) But, his Beethoven, Schubert just second to none. Not too long ago, there is one clip of his live performance of Schubert D.664 on YouTube. It was just breathtakingly celestial. It was even much better than his studio recording. Only that it was taken off the web due to legal reasons. To this day, I still regret that I did not download it. :(
Haskil's Mozart is perfect. It's pure beauty. But for some reason it does not hold my attention very long. Talking about lady pianists of that generation, are you familiar with Dame Myra Hess? Her late Beethoven Sonatas and many other works just heavenly.
