Two Different Directions       約翰-丹佛John Denver於1943年生於美國西南部的新墨西哥州羅斯維爾城。那時美國南方的一個終年陽光燦爛的城市。1971年《Take Me Home Country Road》的成功讓丹佛成為著名的鄉村音樂歌星。1974年，成為美國唱片最暢銷的藝人；1976年，開辦自己的唱片公司；1997年10月12日，在加利福尼亞海灣因飛機失事不幸身亡，終年53歲。       John Denver最能讓中國人記憶猶新的是1979年中國改革開放的先驅鄧小平訪美時，在華盛頓肯尼迪文化中心他的表演以及對戴著牛仔帽的鄧小平的歡迎。那是一個新曆史的開始！美國接受了中國的這個個頭矮矮但是精神矍鑠的共產黨領導人，而中國人則接受了美國人送過來的那頂牛仔帽，鄧小平代表中國人自然而瀟灑地戴在頭上，然後John Denver的那清亮陽光般的歌聲也一並來到了中國。       John Denver的歌大多都跟自然，跟陽光，跟鄉村有關，比如《Rocky Mountain High》、《Sunshine On My Shoulders》、《A Wild Heart Looking For Home》、《Trail Of Tears》 《African Sunrise》以及《Thank God I'm a Country Boy》等。他的聲音高昂而清澈，幹淨清晰，給人以陽光般的溫暖和快樂。      John Denver是緊跟著中國改革的春風來到中國的，他也成了中國人最為熟悉的一個鄉村歌手。他在美國和世界都受到了極大的尊敬，不僅僅是因為他的音樂貢獻。John Denver的性格特點，帶有著明顯的美國特色，有著濃烈的美國本土味道——樂觀、積極、向上、活躍而主動。他幾乎就是美國精神中向上一麵的代表，像是一個符號，即使是逝世方式都比較美國化。     John Denver以及他所代表著的鄉村音樂已經被符號化，被貼上了自然主義的標簽。這種歸類不無道理，這種歸類也無可厚非。    但是John Denver以及他的音樂，還有整個鄉村音樂country music所代表著的意義，以及人民心中那份美好的心情將永遠不會改變。   人們將會懷念他，在陽光照耀著的大山之腳，在藍紫色煙霧彌漫的平原，在開滿鮮花的五月的荒原......
