芭芭拉史翠珊（Barbara Streisand）的歌聲，無論她在樂壇勢力如何地興起衰落、改朝換代，她那完美、清亮、高亢動人的嗓音與純熟充滿感情的詮釋技巧，始終能跨過年齡的鴻溝與曲風的藩籬，撼動無數樂迷的心靈。

在 1973 年由她與勞伯瑞福（Robert Redford）領銜主演的《The Way We Were》（往日情懷），以及搭配她所親自演唱的同名電影主題曲，在當時充斥著老式音樂劇的好萊塢電影中，以結合政治與羅曼史的「雲霄飛車式」愛情故事，還有「此音隻應天上有」的 Barbara Streisand 歌聲，感動了不知多少當時純情的少男少女心。

不管是電影的劇情、主題曲的詞意，雖然都是簡單、平凡不過的素材，跟電影、音樂史上許多偉大的愛情詩篇比起來，並不算特出，但也就是這樣的極簡美約，更貼近一般人心底那股追求真愛、心性交融的渴望，而能普遍引起絲履士服、販夫走足的共鳴，成為傳頌永恆的經典。

Barbara Streisand 不但因為這齣戲獲得了當年奧斯卡金像獎最佳女主角的提名，她所演唱的〈The Way We Were〉更一舉奪得最佳電影主題曲，也成為她歌唱生涯中第一首奪得排行榜冠軍的單曲，意義更是不在話下。
