這是一首一九七四年的 No. 1 歌曲。Happy Chapin　等唱搖滾長大的一代七十年代已進入中年時期，開始反思代差的隔閡。Happy Chapin　的兒子出生的時候，因為巡回演出，他也沒能親眼目睹孩子的降生。可以說這首歌是他有感而發而創作的。歌裏反複出現那句震撼心靈的句子 "We'll get together then, son/you know we are going to have a good time then"道出了美國工作狂們因忙碌而沒時間陪孩子玩的故事。

歌中敘說了一個很簡單卻很耐人尋味的故事：一個小男孩在接受父親的禮物——一個球以後，要求父親和他一起玩，可父親總是說：“改天吧！”雖然總被拒絕，小男孩還是很崇敬父親，希望長大可以做父親那樣的人。後來男孩長大了，上了大學、畢業、工作……偶爾去探望父親的時候，父親總說：“有空多來陪我，可以和我聊聊。”男孩說他很願意，但是很忙，所以：“改天吧！”望著男孩離去時的高大背影，父親感歎：“他真象我……”
