威瓦爾第一生的高峰期可謂於一七二五年出版了作品第八的十二首協奏曲《和聲與創意之競賽》。作品八的頭四首協奏曲便是著名的《四季》小提琴協奏世紀較抽象的無標題音樂帶領到“標題音樂”的範疇，將作曲家的眼界擴闊了，諸如貝多芬及海頓，都在當時嚐試標題音樂。但嚴格來說，標題音樂並非威瓦爾第所創作的，隻是他間接地開拓了一條引路。

威瓦爾第在《四季》裏清楚地把音樂形象以文字描述出來：“春天到了，小鳥以快樂的歌曲來迎接，小河流柔柔地流動，微風細語，然後，天空泛起黑雲，雷電交加，當暴風平靜下來時，小鳥又再出現，唱起和諧的歌。”威瓦爾第以獨奏小提琴代表牧羊人，中提琴代表犬吠聲，圖畫活靈活現。《夏季》則著重表現意大利無生氣的夏天和雷電狂風。而《秋天》則以喝醉的牧羊人的舞蹈作為骨幹，以表示秋天對他們帶來的喜悅。在《冬天》裏，小提琴的裝飾奏及碎弓則表現出寒風融骨的冬天，人們踏足冰地的謹慎、冰塊破裂，在家裏的安祥，都完全地描繪出來。

The Four Seasons Concerto, in E major, R.269 "Spring"

Vivaldi' s Opus 8 Concertos for violin “The Four Seasons”, published in Amsterdam in 1725 is part of a collection called by Vivaldi “The Contest between Harmony and Invention” ( Il cimento dell’armonia e dell’inventione) to outline that his music, spry and interpretative, contrasts with the formal music that came before.

Each Concerto in “The Four Seasons” has three brief movements. They are scored for solo violin, strings and a basso continuo, a keyboard or base instrument played continuously to keep the band together. There was no conductor then.

In “Spring”, we hear birds and a stream babbling in the background whilst towards the end of the first movement a storm arises. The Largo shows us a pastoral scene of a shepherd and his dog asleep in the warm spring air. The final movement is a sprightly dance.
