Corridors Of Death
By: Giorgio Provinciali
Live from Ukraine
Cherkaske, Donetsk — The number of Russian bombs and drones continuing to rain down on this part of Donbas is terrifying. Shortly before this article was sent for publishing, a Ukrainian civilian died in Kramatorsk and another in Druzhkivka. Two more died yesterday, and others were seriously injured in Kramatorsk, Riznikivka (the community of Siversk in Bakhmut District), Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, and Sloviansk. On average, about three hundred adults and fifty children are evacuated from these areas of Donetsk every day, but the Russian Armed Forces are impeding even these already extremely difficult operations by now targeting civilian vehicles with the same high-explosive drones they previously used against military vehicles.

In the Pokrovsk District, the communities of Dobropillia and Shakhivka have suffered extensive destruction. Yesterday, a civilian died there as well, including in Oleksandrivka. Having traveled almost daily for months along the anti-drone corridors connecting those (now former) cities and dozens of other small settlements in Donbas, we’ve noted that the trips are increasingly dangerous because the fishnets installed above the road surface are often damaged. Russian drone operators are deliberately using multirotor kamikaze UAVs to attack those fences, clearing gaps with their sharp blades. On the stretches closest to Kostiantynivka, they’re now dropping white phosphorus with other drones, as we’ve documented in the Korabel neighborhood of Kherson. This makes repair efforts even more difficult, as it is clear that even the metal cages are insufficient to protect Ukrainian workers.

In a video we posted to this “La Ragione’s” YouTube channel in the past few hours, we showed gashes, some 20–30 meters long, along a stretch of road that is extremely critical for supplying Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, and their satellite settlements.

When we arrived in Cherkaske, the wreckage of a civilian vehicle was burning in the center of town, and the gas station where we usually stop to refuel urged us to move away because Russian drones had twice in one day attempted to blow up the station. In another clip, which we will upload in the next few hours, you can see Russian drones burning as they crash just meters from the kiosks where people usually stop for a hot drink before heading to nearby Sloviansk, the vortex of events.

In the opposite direction, yesterday we saw fire engines and ambulances riddled with bullets speeding by, a sight we had rarely seen before. At 5 a.m. on Wednesday, the Russian Air Force dropped a one-and-a-half-ton glide bomb directly on Sloviansk, hitting a children’s sports facility and severely damaging the civilian buildings from which we had recorded other, to say the least, heartbreaking images just a few days earlier. In these cases, the firefighters’ work far exceeds the call of duty and borders on devotion, because the Russians often target them with deadly double-taps.
The occupiers launch drones and incendiary bombs against civilian targets in the heart of the city, drawing first responders who rush to quell an inferno of flames and circling munitions to save as many lives as possible, only to kill them too with more drones. Throwing oneself into a desperate battle against the fire, in those conditions, means offering one’s life as the highest expression of duty.

With three-meter, 1,500-kg laser-guided bombs that generate a shock wave and overpressure that render any shielding surface ineffective, the Russians are demolishing the minimal conditions that still allow survival, movement, evacuation, rescue, and resupply. They are attempting to sever continuity among cities, suburbs, services, hospitals, refueling points, vehicles, and emergency teams, invalidating the entire protected segment of the road corridor.
They are well aware that passive anti-drone defenses are no longer mere logistical details but vital infrastructure. Therefore, they are seeking to compromise their structural integrity while simultaneously conducting deep structural demolition in cities like Kramatorsk and Sloviansk and, due to asymmetric demographic attrition, in their satellite settlements.

We will continue to document life beneath those fences on video because it is precisely in the minor nodes of normality that develop along the exposed arteries of Donbas that the Moscow regime is attempting to strip civilians of even the illusion of a residual routine. The distinction between civilian and military targets is being deliberately eroded to use the very population Putin has claimed for years he wanted to save as bait for expulsion. So much so that even saving a life here is already an act of resistance.

In 1.515 days of war, we recorded over 250 videos from ground zero and wrote more than 1,500 articles.
We are doing our best to provide genuine, first-hand reports from zones where almost no press dares to go. This means living in a kill zone constantly. We take the risk, but without your invaluable support, our voices would remain unheard and silent. Without brave people sharing our articles from afar, they would remain unread. Our reports would go unseen, and our efforts would be lost. There’s still a lot of work to do here, as the people around us are also in no better situation.
We’re renewing our fundraising campaign and thanking everyone who joins us in helping to restore what Russia is destroying. Moving forward with only a small reimbursement for each article from a brave newspaper that believes in us is extremely challenging. That’s why we are grateful to all the kind people who support us and trust in our mission.
Even a small donation helps.
We’ll keep you updated on developments.
Thank you all, dear friends

Giorgio Provinciali)
