1. With your IT background, you will most likely become an IP lawyer.
2. IP lawyers have a better than average life style than most other lawyers (M&A lawyers or litigators).
3. The busy life style only exists in big firms (i.e. AM LAW100), because big firms pay high salaries ($120-160K to start with)so they want you to bill as much as possible (min. 2000 hours a year). Please note, billable hours do not include your internet surfing hours or your phone time with your friends. So, most likely you will have to work 3000 hours in order to bill 2000.
4. If you practice law with a smaller firm, you will be paid much less, but your life style can be manageable. It is not as bad.
5. You will never get rich practicing law. But if you become a good lawyer, you don't have to worry about unemployment, because you can always be self-employed.
