BOSTON -- Happy hours and other promotions of alcoholic beverages have been banned in Massachusetts bars and restaurants in the latest example of society's get-tough attitude toward drunk driving and alcoholism.
Gov. Michael S. Dukakis signed regulations, effective Dec. 10, prohibiting happy hours, free drinks, jumbo drinks, 2-for-1 specials, reduced drink prices, offering drinks as prizes, holding drinking contests and selling pitchers of beer to one person.
