Maybe you would liek to mention this to your controller and ask she/he reconsider the decision?
if they knew this before told your lay-off...you imagine... make sure they knew this before or not!
if the decision is irreversible, you got a chance to argue for trying a better leaving package if they could not evidence you are an incompetent one.
if things go negative way it could affect your future job hunting.
