The court usually takes care of the process of service, i.e., deliver the Summons to him in person.
If you have to do it or pay somebody to do it, you need find a way to stick the paper into his hand and run. This way, he is deemed to have received the Summons. There is another way to do it: hand in the Summons to another person who shares the same residence (e.g., spouse) as long as that person is an adult.
