In CA. if you do not closed your business officially, then you will have to file your LLC's tax return whether you are in business or not, and pay the franchinse tax as long as the LLC exists.

If the LLC was fild in CA, you will have to file the dissolution with the Secretary of State, too. Required documents include certificate of election to wind up and dissolve, certificate of dissolution, and Request for Tax Clearance Certificate (This one is a Franchise Tax Board form which will be forwarded to FTB by the office of the Secretary of State.) Your business entity will be officially closed after the the Secretary of State receives the Tax Clearance Certificate from FTB. You will then receive the filed copy from the Secretary of State.

Know nothing about it in any other states.
