Agree with 昭君出塞因地製宜. Nothing can be further away from truth by saying that practicing IP law requires less English skills. IP law practice also includes litigation and transaction, both requiring an absolutely excellent command of English. You would never be hired if you failed to show you have that ability. Also, IP law covers patents, trademarks, copyright, etc.; none is easy. If you want to be a patent lawyer, you would have to take and pass the patent bar in addition to taking a regular state bar exam. You may consider becoming a patent agency, which would allow you to use your technical background and skip the law school part. Good luck.
