the only way they can make a claim is to allege that you committed fraud or misrepresentation. their allegation would be based on the fact that you knew there was a problem and you did not disclose it to them.
your defense is that they had a chance to do an inspection. and if they did an inspection, they should found the problem themselves. this is regardless if they actually perform an inspection or not.
alleging fraud or misrepresentation sets up a very high burden for a plaintiff. in most cases, once the house is sold, it is sold as-is.
you really should not be talking to them, other than something like "happy thanksgiving".
