on beautiful mind and family guy [cross posting 北美]

it pains me to think that on thanksgiving day, one family will be in utter mourning, and another is missing a father/hu*****and

the worst of worst things in the world can happen is for parents to bury their own child. Not just any child, but their only child, and one with a brilliant beautiful mind and bright future, how utterly devastating!

for three little boys in their neediest time of their lives, the prospect of growing up without a proper father or fatherly figure, is heart breaking.

Neither should have happened. In truth, we don't even know what exactly have happened. But this does not stop me from speculating.

Either accidental falling, or intentional suicide, we can surely say it was not normal. Yes a brilliant guy like that can sometimes be beyond normal. Now i also know incidence of mental stress, insomnia, depression is also high in such group of ultra-intelligent people, John Nash being the extreme. What if, he was taking some of these "mind-altering", "mood-improving", or "sleep-enhancing" prescription drugs? There are at least several dozen of such medications that have already been proven by US legal system as to cause harmful behavior including personality split, sleep-walking, and suicide. Majority are in anti-depressant and tranquilizer category. Not that such digging is going to bring the son back to grieving parents, but a proper closure and probable remediation is much needed in this case, i think.

whatever shortcomings he might have and however fatal, we can't deny that he has been a family guy. Maybe he was lacking in the thankfulness department, but i guess he is not short of remorsefulness in his current being. This maybe a stretch, but what if this family guy had been under stress, i would be if i were him, and was on anti-stress medication? Say, prozac, paxil, luvox, xanax or any of these notoriously famous suicide/murder inducing pills? If this turns out to be the story, then i would say using public defender is his 2nd biggest fatal mistake, next to killing. The difference might be between going back to be father-for-three or serving life sentence for murder.

Peace to the lost soul, comfort to the grieving, and hope to the worrying.
