回複:回複:SOS-忘記了報稅,怎麽辦?

You can still file your tax return, even if you didn’t ask for an extension. And in some cases, you won’t even face a penalty!

If you find that you had already overpaid your tax by April 15th and will get a refund when you file, there’s no late-filing penalty. That’s because the penalty is based on the amount not paid by April 15th. But don’t get too relaxed – you have only three years from the due date to file for that refund. Miss that deadline and you kiss the money goodbye.

If you didn’t file on time and you owe tax, you’ll also owe interest – the current rate is five percent per year, compounded daily – and you’ll face a late-filing penalty of 5% per month of the unpaid tax, up to a maximum penalty of 25% of the amount due. If you file more than 60 days late, the minimum penalty is $100 or the full amount of tax due, whichever is less. File soon – the later you file, the more you’ll owe.
