Assume you don't have a child.

To prevent any complication, it's better to file in US court if you two will stay in US as US court has no jurisdiction over Chinese jurisdiction.

Have a MSA (Marital Seperation Agreement), make sure reviewed by a lawyer or at least paralegal, file in US court. try to make it as detail as possible, property, bank accounts, 401(k), 403(b), debts, life ins. etc. write down the deadline for each item. MSA will be signed by the judge and filed in county recorder office. it's legal document!!
