Man should reserve the rights to give a lesson with a measurable force. The key is measurable. I think hit her once/twice at a none fatal area which cause temporary pain with minimum mark is acceptable.

If she hit him, the chance police will arrest her is minimum.

Remember the English Common Law, "The rule of Thumb"? That is what we need.
