what should I do in this case?

I changed gas tank of the car in a garage but later found out they didn't do it properly, now I have to spend nearly 1000 to fix it.
should I go back to ask them to fix that or should I repair it at dealers and ask them to pay the fee? the dealer said I should not drive the car because it is not safe, and I am not sure if they can fix it without causing any other problem(a lot of parts need to be removed to fix that). I have the statement from dealer which said the possible reason may be they didn't do it properly, will I win the case if going to the court?
