If you do not sue him, the State will. But if you do not cooperate, the State will eventually drop the case. He will likely end up taking some DV classes for the State to do so. Once the case is dropped, you need to go to the record office to expunge (delete) the record. So there will be no public record for his arrest. He needs your suport. You may get a lawyer, the cost is normally about $500.
