How does your landlord try to evict you? Only threatening, or is the case already in legal proceeding?

US law discourages self-help and encourage an aggrieved party to go through legal procedures for damage relief. Your landlord cannot simply evict you by force without your consent. He has to seek legal protection.

At the meantime, you can collect any evidence that favors you, such as post-office record showing the mailing of your check, any unreasonable treatment and inconvenience you have experienced and any damage you have suffered, etc. It will help you if the case gets into the court.
