怎麽和18歲上大學的兒子在車禍責任上分開

我在加州。兒子今年就要上大學了，上大學的生活費用是我們支助。他可能會買車。問題是：如果他出了大的車禍，保險不夠時，對方會追到我們，因為我們在支助兒子上大學。有沒有什麽方法，能夠讓我們和兒子在車禍責任上分開？謝謝。
