It is easy for J2 to change to J1. However, it is not a good choice. If you change to J1, you need two times waive if you want to change other visa or apply green card. J2 is a very good visa, you can apply for work permission (EAD) then you can work at any place.

If you want to change other visa, you need get J1 wavier firstly.
