When you are fired, that means you violated the company rules, law, not do good job or made big mistake, etc. Then, your future such as looking for new jobs will be affected. Being laid off, that means the company has some problems such as its business does not go well and thus, the company can not afford the employees'salary and has to let some employees go. When you are laid off, this will not affect your future.
