You can get still cheep insurance rates if you do

Insurance companies have a database for information sharing. If your State Farms have reported your claims to the database, other insurance companies will see them. Therefore you can hide nothing. They can search the claims through your SSN or your address among others. Therefore it does not help much if your wife applies for a new insurance policy, unless she has a different address than yours.

However, the good thing is that many insurance companies do not report every claim, in order to make the companies look good. For those claims that are not involved another party (e.g., your car just hit a tree) AND the claim amount is not huge, most likely insurance companies will not report them.

Therefore, here is what you can do

1. contact ChoicePoint to get a report of your own claim history. The nonrenewable letter from State Farm may provide a similar source, saying their decision was based on information from blah, blah, ... ChoicePoint’s web address is http://www.choicepoint.com/
go to consumer Solutions -> insurance reports -> AUTO claim history to order your reports
2. If your claim history does not show your claims ted, then you have very good bargain power in obtaining a new policy from a different insurance company.

3. If you want make yourself happier or get even lower insurance rate, you can go to a local office of vehicle and driver license department to order a report of your driving record. It is not uncommon that some of one’s moving violations are not on the report, because of human errors or processing delay. It happened to me, anyway. If the report does not show your violation of no obeying the STOP sign, you will have even bigger bargain power in negotiating insurance rate.

I had similar experience as yours with my insurance company. Because my reports of claim history and driving record did not show all facts, I got the rate of the new policy lower than the previous one.
