Intentional over-statement of amount of deductions is considered Tax Fraud to the IRS and will be investigated, (that’s what they are doing right now.) if found guilty, the fine could be no-more than 3 yrs in prison or no-more than 250K in fine, or both. I’d be very worried right now if I were ur “friend”. Check www.IRS.gov for tax fraud details.
