Which state are you in?

I know a friend, in a community property state, who divorced his wife several years ago. His wife has been stayed at home for almost 20 years. All he gave up is half his 401K, half of their savings. I think his wife got the house. Then he paid child support till the kids are 18. (The kids are 14 and 16 when he divorced.) He does not need to pay any alimony.

You should talk to a divorce lawyer.

As the other mentioned, talk to your son and he very likely will want to stay with you. Even he decided to stay with your wife, you can still apply GC for him.
