Question about Medical Malpractice Law suit.

I have a frient who is a Doctor. He just got a notice letter from a personal injury attorney , it says that a patient is presently considering bringing an actiion against this Doc , and the action may be commenced withing 180 daysafter the giving of the notice. My question is if my Doc friend should contact his malpratice insurance company right now, or just wait for the formal letter from the court? Because he still think he didn't do nothing wrong, and he doesn't want to left a record to the insurance co. for nothing.
