1. so did you claim exemption for your spouse when you elect married filing separatly?

2. IRS audit on your return might have been triggered by the fact that you filed as married w/o spouse's ssn/itin, whether you claim exemption for spouse or not. Once you are audited, you will be audited year after year. lots of trouble.
